Project Description
As part of the faculty research focus “Ambiguities – Identities – Constructions of Meaning,” Dr. Jonas Maria Hoff the paradoxes inherent in Christian faith. The project is funded by the University of Bonn through an Argelander Starter-Kit Grant in the amount of €23,800.
Christian faith is permeated by paradoxes—from the incarnation to the virgin birth and the resurrection. It consistently confronts us with thought structures that unsettle apparent certainties. This observation is by no means unfamiliar to theology. However, theological engagement with paradoxes still shows significant gaps that this project aims to address.
For instance, there has been little investigation into the consequences of a theology shaped by paradox. How does such a theology differ from fideistic models? What implications does it have for interreligious dialogue? And how does it relate to historical insights into the development of religious paradoxes? These are the guiding questions of the project.
