Das Kirchenrechtliche Seminar ist ein forschungsstarkes Umfeld, in dem das römisch-katholische Kirchenrecht vor dem Hintergrund aktueller Erkenntnisse aus der religionsrechtlichen Forschung, der Rechts- und Normtheorie und -soziologie, dem komparativen Recht und dem Rechtspluralismus einer sozial- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Analyse unterzogen wird.

Schwerpunktfelder der Forschung sind

• Kirchenrechtssoziologie und sozialwissenschaftliche Perspektiven des Religionsrechts;
• (Religions)Rechtsvergleichung;
• (Kirchen)Recht als Kultur und Gegenstand kulturwissenschaftlicher Forschung;
• Kirchen- und Religionsrecht im Rechtspluralismus;
• Recht als Ritual: liturgische Ordnungen und Liturgien des Rechts;
• kirchliche Rechts- und Geltungstheorien;
• Wissen(schafts)theorie und Methodologien im Feld von Recht und Religion;
• Grundlagenfragen von Recht und Religion, z. B. Normtheorie;
• Kirchenrechtssprache und Sprachenprobleme im Feld von Recht und Religion.

Die Erkenntnisse der Forschung gehen in eine gegenwarts- und problemorientierte Lehre ein.

The Seminar of Canon Law is a research unit for cutting-edge research on law and religion, with a particular focus on the Roman Catholic legal tradition. We subject Roman Catholic canon law to socio-legal and cultural analysis, drawing on insights from religious law studies, legal and normative theory and sociology, comparative law and legal pluralism.

We focus on

• the sociology of canon law and religious socio-legal studies;
• comparative law and religion;
• canon law as culture and as an object of cultural studies research;
• the role of religious law in legal pluralism;
• law as ritual: the laws of liturgies and the liturgies of the law;
• canon law theory and jurisprudence;
• epistemology and methodology between law and religion;
• fundamental issues of law and religion, such as norm theory;
• canon law Legalese and the challenges of law and language.

The results of this research are used to provide up-to-date, research-based teaching.
