Fundamental Theology
Because faith and reason belong together, Christian theology has embarked on an exciting intellectual journey, developing a self-understanding as a “research of faith.” Fundamental Theology addresses the foundational questions that arise in this context: What does it mean to “believe” as distinct from “knowing,” and to what extent is it reasonable to believe? What distinguishes the voice of theology within the concert of academic disciplines?
Fundamental Theology also explores the rationality and relevance of the three central thematic areas: “God,” “Revelation,” and “Church.” These inquiries take place in interdisciplinary dialogue with other disciplines, in engagement with other religions, and in conversation with those who do not share a faith perspective.
The Junior Professorship for Fundamental Theology and Christian Identities, held by JProf. Stefan Walser, addresses these classical themes while placing particular emphasis on the relationship between faith and identity formation, and the diverse dynamics involved.
